Web Site Creator FAQ
Why won't Web Site Creator launch?
If you have a pop-up blocker active, it may prevent the Web Site Creator window from opening. Some browser toolbars include a pop-up blocker that you may not be aware of, such as the Google, Yahoo, or AOL toolbars.
Also, some combinations of operating systems and browser may not be compatible with the Web Site Creator. Mac users running OS X cannot use Web Site Creator with Internet Explorer. These users must use either Camino or Firefox.
Can I downgrade my Web Site Creator account?
No, a Web Site Creator account cannot be downgraded, because the reduced functionality breaks the web site.
If you find you don’t need all the functionality of your current package, you can cancel your WSC account and purchase a new package.
Can I FTP or use my own HTML code with Web Site Creator?
We recommend that you not try to mix Web Site Creator and manual changes, because if you use the WSC wizard and republish, your manual changes will be deleted.
WSC offers many prepackaged templates to help you design the right site for your purpose; we recommend that you use them without manual changes.
Does Web Site Creator Max support credit card payments?
Web Site Creator Max supports PayPal, through which you can accept credit cards. It does not support the major credit cards directly.
The other payment options available with WSC Max are billing your customer, or shipping your product with payment on delivery.
How do I get my site submitted to search engines?
The major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN have “robots” which crawl the Internet on their own schedules, and are intentionally secretive about the timing so that their results remain unbiased. Some minor search engines still accept submissions; find a list at http://selfpromotion.com/
However, there are some steps you can take so that when a search engine visits, your web site scores as well as possible.
On the Design Details tab, your name, motto, or slogan is likely to affect your ranking.
On the Edit tab, the first block of text on your home page is the most likely to affect your ranking. All text on all pages counts, but your home page and text marked with header tags are key.
On the Extras tab, the text you enter for HTML-Title and Meta-tags will have a large effect on your ranking.
Currently we do not provide a search engine optimization service. However, a good primer for how to optimize your website to make it more search engine friendly can be found at http://selfpromotion.com/search-engine-optimization.t.
Because search technology is constantly changing, we recommend that you search for the most current information to help identify which factors are most likely to raise your rankings.
